Australian Idol co-host Scott Tweedie is gearing up for the finale of the hit Seven show.
His wish? That the internet shut down on a Sunday – something we can all get behind.
SCOTT TWEEDIE
Age: 37
Suburb: Bondi
How would you describe yourself?
A grey-streaked golden retriever who absolutely loves music. I feel I am extremely lucky for all the things I get to do in my life, so I try to remind myself of that daily, and do all that I can to help and encourage others to make sure they treasure passing moments in life, too.
How do you think others describe you?
I just typed a message to Ricki-Lee: “see the above question, whatever you type here I will copy and paste directly, no edits. Please don’t get us cancelled.”
Her response: “Scott Tweedie is the ultimate optimist, a ball of positivity, it’s impossible to not be happy or have a smile on your face around him.
“He’s everyone’s biggest cheerleader and a wonderful human. But don’t worry … it’s not ALL good … he’s a terrible dancer. Form an orderly queue ladies … we are taking submissions for my newest TV project – Scotty Wants A Wife.”
What is most important to you?
Being proud of myself. Looking after those around you. Dancing and good music. Slowing down and less phone time. Giving at least one compliment a day that you really mean. Eating food by the use-by date.
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Firstly a pilot, then a Getaway presenter. I thought Jules Lund’s infectious energy and his style of presenting in the coolest locations around the world was amazing.
What has been the biggest obstacle you have overcome?
Biggest obstacle was probably 2020-2021. I had just moved to NYC for a new TV show, was in love with a girl back in Australia and the Covid year really flipped everything on its head.
I had to really back myself and trust my gut to keep pursuing a life in the US.
What’s something people may not know about you?
I duxed art in school.
What has been your proudest moment?
My screen test to host Australian Idol. I had to do it in a small studio on Sunset Boulevard in LA, and I just knew I had enough experience in my career – and my passion for music and supporting Australians in the music industry – that I was the man for the job. Even if I didn’t get the role, I knew I put my best piece of work down on tape.
If you had one wish, what would it be?
That on Sundays, the internet turns off for the day. Maybe phones, too. You have to use landlines or meet people in real life just on this day each week. Would be bloody refreshing.
What do you wish we could do more about? As in an issue or problem facing the world?
The world has a lot of problems. If I could do one thing it would be working on the disparity of wealth ... growing at an astronomical rate.
What is the kindest thing anyone has ever said to you?
I get a real high out of helping and connecting people. Whether it’s connecting someone new in the industry or an old friend who has just moved to a new city, I get a real kick out of helping people out in that regard. A friend from LA thanked me for introducing her to her now entire group of closest friends. That felt nice.
Australian Idol continues at 7pm tonight on Channel 7 and 7plus
