Tony Jones ignited tears of laughter when he incidentally stoked his feud with Tim Watson on the Sunday Footy Show.

There’s no secret the pair has history and during a segment when Matthew Lloyd was reading out a letter from a fan critiquing and praising the panel members, he cheekily asked Jones what word he would use to describe the Essendon legend.

“Vanilla,’’ Jones said in a flash.

The Sunday Footy Show panel distanced themselves from Tony Jones.

Lloyd and Kane Cornes found that hysterical, distancing themselves from Jones who quickly had a rethink and backtracked.

“Stop trying to drive a wedge between me and Tim,’’ he said.

“It was just a word to get a reaction. Tim, Tim you know I’m joking.”

Lloyd said: “You fell into that one TJ.”

Jones, quickly realising his word might not be received in its intended jest, continued: “Tim. I’ve got the greatest respect for you, you know that. It was a word I just threw out there and they’ve taken it to a whole new low. Tim, on the record, I love you, I respect you.”

Gill’s for surprising new role

Gillon McLachlan has set himself a challenge as he winds down and lightens up as AFL boss.

McLachlan has vowed that he’ll read the news on radio in a fortnight.

“I’ve been told I’ve got a good deep voice for radio,’’ McLachlan told Tony Jones, filling in for Neil Mitchell on 3AW on Friday.

“Who’s your newsreader who wears no clothes? I’ll audition for David (Armstrong) and I’ll wear a formal outfit when I read the news.

“I’ll do the 10 o’clock news instead of David Armstrong in a fortnight. I’m in, I want to do it.”

Jones sounded a bit surprised but rolled along with it and said he’d hold the outgoing CEO to his commitment.

“We’ll get our people to talk your people and we’ll lock that in,’’ adding, “be warned you might be the lead story.”

Back in the Nick of time

Nick Riewoldt slipped back into Melbourne during the week.

The former St Kilda captain and Fox Footy commentator appeared in studio on his regular podcast Footy Talk, alongside Leigh Montagna, saying he was in town from Texas for a quick work trip.

“It’s harvest time out at Cobram Estate so back to pick some olives and turn them into olive oil and I’ll be on my way again,’’ Riewoldt said.

G Flip watched the Collingwood win all the way from her LA home.

Aussie singer G Flip posted in delight after watching Collingwood’s win.

The non-binary muso who has just released a new single, wrote on Monday morning: “Fell asleep trying to stay awake and watch last night, replay it is.”

G Flip added: “Go Pies Mason Cox what a game.”

Cox, who was best on ground against GWS, reposted the story that was playing with a Garth Brooks track, writing “It’s the Garth Brooks for me.”

G Flip, based in LA with wife Chrishell Stause of Selling Sunset fame, is often seen abroad wearing a Pies jumper.

Collingwood brought the mums in to sing the song.

This one’s for you, mum

Collingwood is hardly putting a foot wrong and the club deserves a shoutout for the way it celebrated mums on Mother’s Day.

Players gave their mothers a bunch of flowers before the game, their mothers formed a guard of honour as they ran out on the field and after the game mums were in the huddle singing the team song at the request of Steele Sidebottom.

Not sure if they all knew the words but the players clearly enjoyed having their mums — in most cases their biggest supporter — by their side and being recognised on the day.
