Time On: Tony Jones “had enough” of jibes from Sunday Footy Show colleagues

Tony Jones has responded to claims he blew up at Sunday Footy Show colleagues after jibes about his teeth and presenting ability.

Time On is your Monday wrap-up of all the footy gossip from the weekend.

Tony Jones insists the Sunday Footy Show panel is “as tight as ever” despite some members describing recent tensions as fractious.

It all centres around the show’s humorous segment, What Caught My Eye, where the panel find funny clips or stories about each other.

Damian Barrett and Nathan Brown conceded things may have gone too far when Jones took exception to old footage being replayed of him struggling to pronounce names of tennis players while reading the sport news on Nine.

Even retired panel member Billy Brownless weighed in, telling Time On that Jones deserved a break, particularly from the long-time “chompers” jokes, which are a favourite of Brown, Kane Cornes and Matthew Lloyd.

“Poor old Tony. He does cop probably too much, the boys have got to be a bit more mature and stop hanging it on poor old Tony and his teeth,’’ Brownless said.

“He just had enough and that’s fair enough, you’re allowed one or two blow-ups a year. They all get on pretty well.”

In 2020 Jones stormed off set after threatening to do it if the footage of his Rebecca Judd kiss was shown again. The footage was just brought up again on Sunday, but was stopped before the near-miss-kiss was actually shown.

In a twist, Jones tells us the running of the footage was his idea. He is adamant it’s all smooth sailing and there’s nothing to see here.

Darcy declares his hand in Kooyong

Luke Darcy became somewhat of a political cult figure for his staunch views during lockdown.

The considered footy commentator and former Bulldogs ruckman won many over after taking Premier Daniel Andrews to task over the state’s strict regime while a guest on his Triple M Hot Breakfast show.

And it’s now been revealed he’s got a board up of federal Treasurer Josh Frydenberg on his front lawn where he resides in the hotly contested blue-ribbon seat of Kooyong.

Footy great Chris Judd labelled him a “political nuffie” after raising the matter on Triple M’s Friday Huddle.

“If there’s one thing worse than a politician, it’s a sycophant to a politician,’’ Judd exclaimed.

Darcy said it was very close to the truth.

“You either get engaged in the process or you stay out of the process,’’ he said.

“I’m in the electorate of Kooyong and there’s a fairly fierce contest going on there. I’m just declaring my hand.”

He added: “It’s an extraordinary time, it’s an uncertain time so you want quality people who are senior people around and occasionally you’ve just got to stand up and own something”.

Judd conceded, “To be honest Josh is the only one I actually like out of the both parties” but also said he’s less than impressed with the two party leaders, Scott Morrison and Anthony Albanese.

“These two are the only two in Australia working less than me,’’ he said.

Don’t argue with Dusty

Sarah Jones has had a big few weeks.

The Fox Footy host and boundary reporter was given a figurative “don’t argue” from Dustin Martin on Saturday when she tried to approach the Richmond superstar for an interview post-game.

Two weeks ago her car broke down on the way to Ballarat for the Adelaide-Western Bulldogs match.

Fortunately colleague Gerard Healy came to the rescue and picked her up on the side of the West Gate Freeway.
