Thousands of ticketless fans expected to flock to Sydney’s Taylor Swift shows

Thousands of diehard fans who missed out on Taylor Swift tickets are tipped to flock to the Sydney’s Accor Stadium to hear snippets of the popstar’s sold-out shows from outside the arena.

No Taylor Swift ticket? No worries. Thousands of Taylor Swift fans have vowed to flock to Sydney’s Accor Stadium when the popstar’s Eras Tour hits Sydney, whether they have a ticket in their hands or not.

With less than a month to go until the megastar dazzles fans at Melbourne and Sydney, swarms of Swifties who were unable to beat the masses to secure tickets, have decided to head to stadium grounds regardless.

The trend took off after Swifties turned up to the singer’s US concerts, singing and dancing outside packed stadiums.

Now, Aussie fans – young and old – are vowing to do the same.

Adelaide fan Rhianna Hilditch has spent $4000 on flights, hotels, costumes and will travel hours to attend all seven of Melbourne and Sydney’s concerts – however, she will only get past the stadium gates for three of them. The rest she will spend outside the concrete stadiums.

“I lucky enough that we’ve got tickets to a couple of shows but for the shows that we don’t have tickets for, whether they’re in Melbourne or Sydney, we’re going to be ‘Taylor-gating’ for all of them,” she said.

“My sister and I have been Swifties since we were 12 and I am almost 27. Now that we are older, we decided that whenever she comes next we are not messing around. We want to listen to her as much as we can, so we are just going to stand outside every night we can.

“The four thousand was worth it - I know we are going to have the best two weeks of our lives.”

Sydney mum Belinda Eather managed to secure tickets to the first Sydney concert, but has decided to stay in a hotel for an extra night to sit outside the stadium with her daughter for the second show.

“After seeing on social media people in the US still having so much fun outside of the stadium, listening and singing along, we didn’t want to completely miss out. We are staying two nights in Homebush as a little girls weekend away with my daughter,” she said.

It’s a similar story in Melbourne. Yana Fergus, aged in her late 30s, was gifted a ticket but struggled for months to actually purchase one.

During this time, she created a Facebook group, Eras Taylor-Gate Melbourne, to unite Swifities who missed out.

The group has more than 2500 members with the majority planning to hang outside the venue.

“We are flying in from WA and have a different era outfit for each night to sit outside the concert,” one woman said.

“In or out, the atmosphere will be charged and amazing.”

A similar group in Sydney, called Sydney Swifties, has seen hundreds of fans vow to dance the night away outside the venue.

“Let’s be honest it’s the closest I’m ever gonna get to Taylor even if there’s a concrete stadium between us,” said one member.

With the Sydney Taylor Swift concert coinciding with Blink-182, many fans have called for concert officials to establish offical fan live sites.

“MCG/Melb/Sydney would be stupid not to allow it. They could put out food/ drink trucks and make money. The only thing is they would be more security,” said one member.

Swift will play four shows in Sydney from February 23 to February 26.
