Booka or Brett? It is the question that burned through the psyches of devoted MAFS fans last week after the couple imploded before our eyes on Wednesday night.
Initially a fan favourite, the unconventional pairing of “metal chick” Booka Nile and “new age hipster” Brett Hellin seemed — early on at least — destined to be one of the show’s few success stories this season.
With the couple now seemingly headed for the dumpster fire of MAFS failures, one of Nile‘s bridesmaids decided to serve up some scalding tea on Hellin this week, claiming several crucial details were kept from viewers.
Most notable was that Hellin wasn’t interested in Nile from the start of filming because she “wasn’t Japanese” like many of the women he had dated in the past.
“There was a list being written that was the pros and cons list of what I like about you and things I don‘t like about you,” Madeline told the reality TV podcast So Dramatic!
“And under the list of things he didn’t like about (Nile) was ‘you’re not Japanese’.
“And it‘s like: ‘No dude, you can’t say that.’
“There’s such an issue in Western culture where women of colour are fetishised and it just shouldn’t be happening.”
MAFS, meanwhile, continues on its ratings blitz, with Nine attracting 1.017 million viewers to Wednesday’s dinner party episode.
