Homegrown superstar The Kid Laroi has paid it forward to young kids and teenagers finding their way in the Sydney community in which he grew up.

The Australian chart topper presented a $100,000 cheque to The Fact Tree Youth Service in Redfern, stopping by for a sausage sizzle at the humble centre that helped him when he was growing up in the area.

The Kid Laroi, whose real name is Charlton Kenneth Jeffrey Howard, was born and raised in Waterloo, the son of talent manager Sloane Howard and music producer father Nick Howard.

“It is definitely surreal, I am f***ing proud to be back,” the singer told The Daily Telegraph. “I am blessed to come back. It is good to see everyone, it has been such a long time so it is definitely super surreal.”

The 18-year-old flew home to Australia from his LA base last week to begin his End Of The World Tour at Qudos Bank Arena on Thursday.

Laroi’s mum, who is Indigenous Australian and has worked with artists including Delta Goodrem and Bardot, was on hand to see her son present the cheque at the centre that was packed with starstruck local kids keen for a snap with the star. Some of Laroi’s old mates also turned up to celebrate his success.

The Fact Tree drop-in centre helps young people aged 11 to 25, and offers services including accommodation assistance, court support, employment and vocational training.

“This was probably the most fun that I had growing up,” said Laroi, whose new single, Thousand Miles, is out now.

“They used to take us on excursions like the trampoline park and all types of fun stuff.

“They kept us all out of trouble so it was definitely the most fun part of being around here for sure.”

Earlier, he had shut down the local McDonald’s fast food outlet as he stopped by at around 11am Sunday morning. He posed for photographs, signed clothing and chatted with many of the hundreds of fans that flocked to the restaurant.

McDonald’s has collaborated with Laroi on the tour, selling his favourite Maccas meal of a cheeseburger with no pickles, medium fries, medium Frozen Coke, and six Chicken McNuggets with barbecue sauce.

Laroi has amassed a huge following globally, thanks to his massive hits Stay and Without You.

He has 4 million followers on Instagram alone.

Earlier this month, he became the youngest songwriter to claim the prestigious Song of the Year prize at the APRA Music Awards.
