Australian celebrities have taken to social media to laud Labor leader Anthony Albanese’s defeat over Scott Morrison in the federal election.

Grace Tame: “A grateful nation is crying with you. And who said I didn’t smile at the prime minister?”, in reference to her frosty meeting with former PM Scott Morrison in January.

In another post, McGranger wrote: “OK – we called Scott Morrison ScoMo. Can we PLEASE not call Anthony Albanese AnAl?!”

Indie rock band The Polish Club shared an image of Albanese at a DJ deck with the caption: “I for one welcome our new DJ overlord”.
