IF YOU’RE hoping for news on Sam Armytage’s much-speculated dating life, don’t expect to hear it from the journalist herself.
While the Sunrise host constantly finds herself at the centre of romance rumours, she has hit out on social media, demanding a shift in focus.
“I’m one of the country’s senior female journalists. I host a fast-moving, wideranging, top-rating, 4-hour daily breakfast program ... I have minors in American Politics & PR / marketing ... So if you ever want to ask me any intelligent questions (including but not limited to; our politicians’ citizenship, the state of the Australian cricket team, beef prices ...) I’d be happy to answer them,” Armytage wrote.
The Instagram post came in response to an article that appeared in Daily Telegraph’s Confidential yesterday, after a reporter asked Armytage about her love life following her Sunrise interview with Queensland “hot cop” Mason Jago, which went viral earlier in the week.
When asked about the rumours of a romance between the pair, Armytage told the publication: “I am having fun at the moment but that is it, I will keep you all posted”.
She added: “I have learnt absolutely nothing about relationships over the years. I am still as hopeless at it as I was when I was 21”.
The article, which bore the headline “No hot cop for giggly ‘hopeless’ single Sam”, did not sit well with Armytage, who took a photo of the headline and posted the snap to her Instagram, slamming it as the “silly, nasty, tabloid bulls**t that surrounds me most days”.
Armytage emphasised that, if she was asked about her dating life again, the questions wouldn’t be answered.
But Confidential has hit back at the Sunrise host in a follow-up article published today.
The publication wrote that their questions about Armytage’s dating life were in “direct response” to the Sunrise host making comments about her love life earlier in the week.
“Also at odds with her fury is the fact that her ‘friends’ and spin team have often contacted this column spruiking stories about her chemistry with various stars, from Harry Styles to Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe ... and her infamous ‘date’ with Modern Family’s Eric Stonestreet,” Confidential wrote today.
Armytage, who is coming up to her four year anniversary of co-hosting Sunrise this month, regularly uses her Instagram and her hosting gig on Sunrise to call out interest around her dating life.
After Women’s Day published an article in May speculating Armytage was heading out on “secret late-night dates” with Tom Cruise, the TV host immediately ridiculed the article, posting a picture of the glossy cover and writing “Say whaaat?”
Armytage took another shot at the article when she appeared on Sunrise the next day, telling her co-host David Koch it was “rubbish”.
“It’s such rubbish. If ever you needed to know that women’s magazines were full of rubbish, have a look at it today. don’t buy it!” she said.
According to the article, the pair had been seen “flirting” off set, during which Cruise, 54, “held her hand and affectionately put his arm around her”.
Even after the interview, when Kochie joked there’d been “a bit of a connection” between the two, Armytage wasn’t having it.
“Stop it — stop pimping me out, even to Tom Cruise. For God’s sake,” she replied.
