The race to The Block’s finish line proved too much for one contestant during Tuesday’s episode of the show, as a clearly overwhelmed Mimi was shown breaking down on camera.
Contestants are all working together this week to build The Block’s communal clubhouse space, with past All-Star players arriving on site to help them.
There hasn’t been too much time to address the elephant in the room: Queensland couple Kylie and Brad are nowhere to be seen, having fled the show and returned home to Cairns after Kylie’s dramatic on-camera breakdown during Sunday’s judging.
That had been the culmination of a tumultuous period on The Block for the couple, sparked some days earlier when Kylie overheard her husband flirting “inappropriately” with married Mimi during a late-night, alcohol-fuelled encounter.
So far, Mimi’s kept relatively quiet about the controversy, but in Tuesday’s episode it all seemed to catch up with her.
“There’s just a lot going on. We’re doing our best to stay afloat, and trying not to think that we still have the inside of our house to finish,” Mimi said.
Fellow contestant Courtney comforted her as she suddenly became overwhelmed with emotion at The Block’s on-site cafe.
“You’ve got to remember, you’ve had a few big weeks, and you haven’t really spoken about it. It’s bottling up,” Courtney told her.
“Last week was so hard. Kylie and Brad left, and I didn’t even get to process that. So much has happened, and I’m still processing it. I haven’t really dealt with it,” said a sobbing Mimi.
Husband Kristian rushed to comfort her, but soon, Mimi couldn’t even speak and was struggling to breathe as she appeared to be experiencing a full-blown panic attack.
Reflecting on what had happened afterwards, Mimi explained that she was “mentally drained” and didn’t feel like herself, and seemed to suggest she’d experienced panic attacks in the past.
“It’s just been terrifying. Things that don’t usually happen – because I’ve come so far – are happening on The Block,” she said.
“I’m OK, it’s just everything came piling [on].”
The end is in sight: There are only two more episodes of The Block left for the season, with the finale set to air at 7pm this Sunday, a day after the auctions take place on-site at Phillip Island.
It remains to be seen whether Kylie and Brad will return for the finale, after Kylie vowed in Sunday’s episode that she would not attend the auction of her house.
