Fallen television star Andrew O’Keefe spends night behind bars, charged with breaching AVO

Andrew O’Keefe has been given fresh charges after an alleged incident on Saturday night at a unit in Sydney’s leafy eastern suburbs.

Troubled TV personality Andrew O’Keefe has spent the night behind bars, after being arrested for allegedly breaching the conditions of an apprehended violence order.

Police arrested O’Keefe after being called to a unit on Longworth Ave in Point Piper, in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, at about 11.45pm on Saturday.

The 51-year-old was taken to Waverley Police Station where he was charged with one count of contravening a restriction of prohibition of an apprehended violence order, a NSW Police spokesman said in a statement to news.com.au.

O’Keefe was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court on Sunday.

The former television star – who was the face of a number of Channel 7 programs, including Deal or No Deal, Weekend Sunrise, and The Chase, for 17 years – has been in and out of court in recent years on multiple drug and assault charges.

O’Keefe has faced charges of common assault, contravene an AVO, resisting a police officer and assault occasioning actual bodily harm over an alleged incident at Point Piper in September 2021.

He later spent almost five months behind bars, on remand, after being charged with a choking assault on another woman at his Sydney CBD apartment Kent Street in January 2022.

He was granted strict bail by the NSW Supreme Court in May 2022 to reside at a long-term residential rehabilitation facility in the state’s Hunter Region.

O’Keefe was picked up by police in November 2022 at his Vaucluse home and arrested after he allegedly failed a drug test.

In February 2023, head of a hearing over charges against the 51-year-old related to the other 2021 incident, police withdrew the six charges relating to the alleged intentional choking of a woman in 2022.

O’Keefe returned to court in April 2023 facing fresh drug charges after police stopped him on January 20 driving through Point Piper with meth in his system.
