Block stars hit back at report they’re ‘living out of a caravan’

Tom and Sarah-Jane are hitting back over reports they’ve been forced to live out of a caravan after their massive Block loss.

The Block couple Tom and Sarah-Jane have hit back at a false media report claiming that, after their poor showing at this season’s auction day, they’d been forced to move their family into a caravan.

The down-to-earth Victorian couple, who were judges’ favourites all season, were the surprise losers at The Block’s November auctions, earning just $20,000 in profit over their property’s reserve.

Tom and Sarah-Jane are setting the record straight.

Since that devastating defeat, they’ve returned to their normal lives, and are keeping their new fans updated on how they are progressing – but some recent posts led to some unwelcome media coverage.

The pair had given their followers a tour of their holiday home, a humble but well-loved caravan and cabin at a holiday park near Lake Eildon, north of Melbourne. Viewers who watched this season from the beginning will remember they also showed off the property on-screen, explaining that it was their holiday “weekender”.

It’s no Block home, but it’s comfortable.

But the Daily Mail ran with their caravan tour, publishing an article declaring the couple were now “living out of a CARAVAN” after their unfortunate Block result.

“The pair were forced to sell their Ford Ute to make ends meet after walking away with just $20,000 at auction day and are now staying at a Victorian caravan park,” the Mail announced.

Tom and Sarah-Jane have made no secret of the fact they ended up losing money from their three-month Block stint – but their circumstances aren’t that bad.

A pair of new Instagram story updates quickly corrected the record.

First, a photo of them buying the main home they own and live in, in the Melbourne suburb of Gladstone Park. Check out Tom circa 2016, complete with a moustache and a full head of hair:

So there you have it: Tom and Sarah-Jane are not “living out of a CARAVAN” (not that there’s anything wrong with that.

It has been a dramatic few weeks for the couple though, with Sarah-Jane undergoing a preventive double mastectomy just two weeks after Block auction day. She’s been sharing updates about her health on Instagram, revealing that she’d been on a waitlist for the surgery for several years due to a family history of breast cancer – and only found out the day before the Block auction that it would be going ahead imminently.

“It’s been a long time in the making – I’ve been on this list for five-plus years. Then, the day before the Block auction, they called me: ‘We’ve got a spot for you,’” she told her followers.

The couple also told fans on Instagram they’d initially applied for The Block in the hopes of winning a “life-changing” sum of money – “but that didn’t really work out, did it,” quipped Sarah-Jane.
