Australian influencer Molly Cook has called out a fake Instagram account that has used heavily edited versions of her photos to create a completely different online persona.
In a post shared to Instagram on Wednesday, Cook exposed the account which operates under the name Lola Vanderbilt, a young woman claiming to live in Nevada and attend Penn State University.
But there’s just one problem — Lola Vanderbilt doesn’t exist.
The catfish behind the account took photos of Cook, who has more than 160,000 followers, and manipulated them so drastically that the images appear to be a different woman entirely. Vanderbilt is depicted with blonde hair and thinner eyebrows, compared to Cook’s natural brunette look.
Cook posted side-by-side comparisons of the original and altered images, calling the transformation “terrifying” and saying she was “shook”.
Without the direct comparison, most people likely wouldn’t recognise the images as being of the same person.
“Everyone report this account please,” Cook urged her followers in the caption.
MATT LUCAS HAPPY TO BE MISERABLES
Matt Lucas is gracing our stages and he has even bigger musical plans in the works.
The Little Britain star is in town for Les Misérables: The Arena Spectacular World Tour.
But he’s also preparing to bring his novel The Boy Who Slept Through Christmas to life on stage.
“I’m in the process of adapting it into a stage musical,” Lucas shared with Confidential.
“I wrote and recorded 20 songs, and while you read the novel, there are QR codes throughout, it’s a musical novel.”
The 51-year-old noted the challenge of adapting novels into musicals, acknowledging the lengthy timeline involved can stretch into decades.
Having first joined Les Misérables in 2010, Lucas has had several stints in the production and is returning as the mischievous Thénardier.
“It’s an absolute privilege to be asked back,” he said.
“I never hesitate. Whenever they ask if I’m able, I’m there.
“The show is so beautifully written, the tunes are so catchy and rousing and they provoke such a response from the audience.
“It’s such a fun role.
“In concert, I face the audience so I feel a little bit like a comedian again which is how I started, as a stand-up comic which is how I started.”
HEMMES THROWS OPEN HIS DOORS
Justin Hemmes is set to throw open the doors of his home in Vaucluse for a good cause.
After initially being postponed due to severe rainfall a few weeks back, the return of the annual Silver Party will go ahead on Saturday May 10 to raise funds for the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation.
The Silver Party was once among the most prestigious events on the Sydney social calendar, attracting all of the top end of town and raising many millions of dollars over its 23 previous events.
It has been on hold for the past three years but is set to return with a bang as organisers are hoping to raise more than a million dollars.
“Welcoming the Silver Party to my home for this hugely important Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation fundraising event is such a pleasure,” Hemmes, who is soon to become a father for the third time, said.
“The work undertaken by the foundation and its tireless supporters and benefactors to provide much needed funds to help ensure every child in NSW has access to the best possible medical care is second to none.
“There truly is no better investment than in our children. I’m looking forwarding to seeing – and encouraging – the wonderful generosity of those who can really make a difference to so many.”
The Merivale boss has two daughters with his ex Kate Fowler, while partner of six years Madeline Holtznagel is pregnant with a baby boy.
Some 300 guests are tipped to attend.
“It will be an unforgettable experience with the Rock Royalty theme,” Silver Party committee member Barry Wafer, who runs event company RIZER, said.
