Fashion enthusiasts are breathing a sigh of relief as Covid comfort clothes are put behind us in favour of a bold new trend.

Fashion enthusiasts can breathe a sigh of relief as chic style makes a return to wardrobes this winter and “lazy” Covid dressing comes to an end.

Experts say power suits, corporate wear and burnt orange are on-trend this season as more people return to the office and ditch “comfort over style” after working from home during lockdown last year.

Celebrity stylist Donny Gallela, who helps stars prepare for the red carpet, said the Covid-19 pandemic has changed the way we dress.

“I think Covid has made us all look at clothes differently,” he said.

“We want more versatility from our wardrobe, we want our clothes to be wearable from day to night and go from the boardroom to the bar with ease.

“I feel we are finally moving on from the ‘Covid dressing’ period and starting to embrace more stylish clothes that make us feel more confident and empowered.”

Fashion designer Carolyn Rowland, who is the founder of Cazinc the Label, said her corporate wear sales are up at least 40 per cent.

“This year we have noticed a significant increase in the sale of knits, blazers, shirt and pants, with our customers shopping new pieces as they return to the office,” she said.

“Compared to this time last year, where everyone was purchasing casual wear and leisurewear to work from home, the shift has been significant.

“In March and April of this year, we have seen a 40 per cent sales increase in corporate wear compared to previous months, across our website and in our boutique. With the return to work, our sales in key categories such as blazers, suiting and knitwear has reflected this change.”

Gallela said it’s not only women who are embracing burnt orange ahead of winter.

“I have seen this rich burnt orange tone pop up in a few designers’ collections and stores lately,” he said.

“It is a gorgeous colour that compliments lots of skin tones. I’ve spotted burnt orange in everything from light flowy fabrics such as silk dresses, to luxurious velvet blazers. “Interestingly I have seen the colour appear in menswear and womenswear this season.”
