They’ve conquered the charts and now Peking Duk are bringing their cheeky attitude to the male modelling game.
The chart topping music duo have let us in on a secret of the trade after fronting their first undies campaign.
“Did you know that male underwear models have to put bread in their jocks to make it less graphic?” Peking Duk’s Reuben Styles told Confidential.
“We had to, there was no choice in the matter … with the crust cut off. It makes it less graphic for whoever looks at the photo later. It is a real thing and it is hilarious, you walk around with breadcrumbs in your crotch for days afterwards.”
The boys, known for their catchy dance hits including High and Stranger, are the faces of Myer’s Pamper Your Package campaign, encouraging Aussie men to upgrade their old jocks.
It was a huge learning curve for the pair, who say their usual photo shoots take about 20 minutes.
For Styles, it was a slightly intimidating experience being photographed next to his “ripped” bandmate.
“Unfortunately there is no get ripped the day before an underwear shoot so I was a big spooked by it to be honest, I am not going to lie,” Styles said.
“They agreed to let me wear a T-shirt. That is my trick, I hide everything under a T-shirt. It was confronting at first but actually very fun in the end.”
Of the campaign, Hyde added: “We have done photo shoots obviously but spending the day in our underwear and getting oiled up on set was a very strange yet hilariously exciting experience that I think we will never forget.”
Peking Duk meanwhile have just released a new single titled Lil Bit, a collaboration with Tommy Trash that features 60-year-old martial arts Tik Tok star Changxing Liang.
“It is a dance floor bop that came together very quickly,” Hyde explained. “Even though it is COVID and people are still locked in their houses, people are still primal at the end of the day and want to shake their booty so why not give them something to shake to.”
