Viral video star Nissy Nassif on spoofs: ‘Some comments were really hurtful’

Meet Nissy Nassif, owner of a bright-yellow $480,000 Lamborghini and star of a viral video that spawned a meme and a new catchphrase: Do you like?

Parramatta developer Jean Nassif’s Instagram videos have viral reactions

Nissy Nassif — or more correctly her $480,000 yellow Lamborghini — was the subject of a viral video that sent her world into a spin.

Now, months later, the Sydney mum has finally worked up the courage to take the infamous vehicle out of the garage and onto the road.

In February, property developer Jean Nassif shared a video of his wife in front of her new yellow Lamborghini, with the Toplace director saying: “Congratulations Mrs Nassif, do you like?”.

The Nassifs were subsequently mocked in spoof videos featuring used yellow items — from wheelie bins to toy cars, rubber ducks, a Teletubbies doll, a container of Vegemite, a tin of tuna and a yellow bike. But some of the spoof posts were nasty and sexual with one male sharing a video of a banana skin covering his genitalia.

The 31-year-old admits she can now laugh at the situation but, at the time, some of the barbs hit close to home.

“Now I am driving the car again,” Ms Nassif said.

“We put her in the garage for a three or four months. I didn’t want to get exposed at all.

“I am not someone who takes myself very seriously.

“I found it hilarious.

“Most of the time I was on the floor (laughing) literally (at the memes).’’

But she admitted: “Some comments were really hurtful.”

The worst of it for Mrs Nassif was the damage she feels the bullying caused her charity, Wiping Tears, which she devotes much of her time to.

Nassif set up Wiping Tears to help underprivileged families across Australia.

“There’s sponsors who trust us and put money and time and resources into helping, and it was humiliating for all of us,” she said.

“On top of everything, it all happened at the most stressful and saddest time of my life. I had just lost a child through a twin pregnancy. It was a very emotional time for me.”

Nassif’s youngest child, eight-month-old Junior, had a twin who died when she was five months pregnant. The couple are also parents to Jolyn, 5, and Khazen, 3.

Nassif was born in Greystanes. Her parents are from Lebanon and the family moved back to Beirut when she was just four.

At 16 she returned to Australia after finishing high school and did a four year performing arts course at Sydney’s Actors College of Theatre and Television

She peaks fluent English, French and Arabic and looks up to Angelina Jolie as an actor and aspires to one day act on the big screen herself.

“I don’t mind waiting a little longer,” she said. “It is about the right opportunity coming my way. I just feel like it is still not the right time for me. I don’t mind waiting longer and if it never comes, it is not my journey. I am someone that accepts the journey, however it comes to me I take it.”
