Big man, big in the NFL, and big, big voice.
Aussie export NFL player Jordan Mailata was too big for rugby league here in Australia.
So he headed to the US, became a gridiron star with the number 68 jersey for the Philadelphia Eagles and is a bona fide celeb stateside.
What many Australians don’t know is the 25-year-old who is about to play in the Superbowl has the voice of an angel.
The former Bankstown boy’s vocal prowess was showcased to huge affect when the 203cm tall, 166kg behemoth starred on season seven of the US version of The Masked Singer as Thingamabob of Team Cuddly alongside global stars including Shaggy, Christie Brinkley, Rudy Giuliani and the Late Kirstie Alley.
Through the season Mailata impressed judges — Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Ken Jeong and Nicole Scherzinger — with his take on Bon Jovi’s Wanted Dead Or Alive, Ed Sheeran’s Perfect and MKTO’s Classic.
He subsequently recorded an album of festive bangers titled A Philly Special Christmas with teammates Jason Kelce, Lane Johnson and former Eagles linebacker Connor Barwin.
Aussies got a taste of Mailata’s talents when he was young. As a 15-year-old, the then teen was snapped by The Daily Telegraph for singing a duet with fellow Condell Park High School student Rachel Small as part of the B Factor competition during Bankstown Youth Week.
