Not many 20-year-olds have millions of eyes on them every day – but for one rising star singer, this is his new normal and it’s only the beginning.
UK artist Henry Moodie blew up worldwide in 2022 after his debut single – “You were there for me”, quickly hit over 90 million streams on Spotify and went viral on TikTok, earning him over 6.5 million followers and 125.4 million likes on the platform.
Now, the young singer from Guildford in the south of England has touched down on Australian soil for the very first time, with three sold-out shows.
“It feels insane just being here, like I can’t believe I am able to come here with sold-out shows and I haven’t even got an album out yet,” he told Confidential.
“It’s so surreal, Aussies have the best vibes ever. Everyone is so nice and the crowd has been amazing.”
The breakout Brit’s latest single “Bad Emotions” – based on his mental health and released in hopes to help others also struggling, is taken from his upcoming EP “Good old days”, which is set for release in October.
“Songwriting for me is like a form of therapy, I was going through a really hard time, and I felt like the only way I could really get out of it was to write a song about it,” Moodie said.
“It really helped me out of that bad time and I hope to help other people.”
From songs about mental health, friendship, childhood, first love and first heartbreak, Moodie said the EP aims to capture his life in his teens, with themes teenagers worldwide can relate to.
As a massive Swiftie, Moodie – who says he has been songwriting since the age of 11, has “always” been inspired by Taylor Swift’s era albums and takes inspirations from the icon’s style.
“Her different albums kind of inspired me to write songs, bodies of work and create different ‘eras’ that have a different message each time,” he said.
After visiting London for songwriting sessions and joining a band when he was 15, Moodie completed a diploma in songwriting at a music school before he went viral on social media.
Since then he has 450 million streams worldwide, landed in the Top 10 most viewed UK artists on TikTok in 2022 and has been named among Amazon Music’s Artists To Watch in 2023.
With a bright future ahead, Moodie said he is looking forward to reaching the next major milestone in his career.
“My biggest goal at the moment is to release an album, hopefully next year and I’m so excited for it,” he said.
With three sold out shows in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, Moodie is most excited to connect with his Aussie fans, but also connect with Australia’s running culture.
“I thought I would hate touring because I’ve just done songwriting for so long, but I love it and I’m so grateful,” he said.
“It may seem small and boring to most people. But I’m really excited to get up and go for a run around Sydney, I’ve never seen so many people run so early.”
