Tropfest will be hosted at Parramatta Park for the next three years

TROPFEST will be hosted at Parramatta Park for the next three years with a vision to recreate the Cannes film festival.

TROPFEST will be hosted at Parramatta Park for the next three years with a vision to recreate the Cannes film festival.

The short film festival, previously hosted in Centennial Park, will have its 25th anniversary at the 85ha park on February 11, with the aim of drawing audiences of up to 90,000.

Mad Max filmmaker George Miller, who joined the Tropfest board last year as insurers CGU confirmed funding for the next three years, said: “This is a positive move as, demographically and geographically, Parramatta is in the heartland of Sydney. We want to grow the festival and don’t want it to be ad hoc.”

Organisers have decided to shake it up by having the world’s largest short film festival on a Saturday night instead of Sunday. The plan is to eventually run it over two days.

Home And Away Actress Tess Haubrich, who also appeared in Wolverine, said the festival was a great platform to launch an international career.

“Had I been in a Tropfest production maybe it wouldn’t have taken me eight years to get a decent role,” she said.
