Are you a fan of the traditional, slightly spiced, hot cross bun which contain raisins? You now might be in the minority.

When it comes to the Easter baked treat, Sydneysiders don’t want to stick to the traditional and instead are turning to Tik Tok for inspiration.

The biggest trend for this year has been hot cross buns filled with Dubai Chocolate.

A viral trend, Dubai chocolate is inspired by the Middle Eastern dessert knafeh and is a milk chocolate, creamy pistachio and tahini mixture with crispy shredded filo pastry.

It’s this flavour that is outselling the previously most popular hot cross bun, nutella, at The Glenorie Bakery.

This is the first year the bakehouse, which has been awarded the best in Australia for three years in a row, has offered Dubai Hot Chocolate Hot Cross Buns. But because of its huge popularity, it certainly won’t be the last according to owner Robert Pirina.

“I personally love pistachio but what I really love most is to be able to bring the flavours and combinations from around the world and infuse them with the products we love here in Australia,” said Pirina.
