Former prime minister Tony Abbott is a grandfather after his daughter, Frances Loch, gave birth to a baby boy on Sunday.
Loch’s husband, Sam, announced the arrival of their son Ernest on social media and said mum and baby are both doing well following a natural birth.
“Ernest Loch – Born on his Due Date, July 11. Tipping the scales at an even 9lb. Brought into existence by his mum with nothing but breathing, coconut water and heart,” he wrote on Instagram.
The couple live in Portland, Oregon and it’s unlikely Mr Abbott has been able to meet his grandson yet.
Loch, 29, first announced she was expecting in January and documented her pregnancy on social media.
She and Olympian rower turned weightlifter Sam made headlines in 2017 after a whirlwind engagement.
The couple got engaged just two weeks after being introduced by a friend.
“Everyone’s like, ‘Wow, this is really fast’,” Loch previously told Stellar.
“But it feels so natural to me. His energy, it’s so grounding. When I am around him, I am like, ‘This is what it’s meant to be like’. Life is short, and love is special, and sometimes you just need to follow your instincts.”
