Toni Watson has plenty of reasons to smile today.
The singer, known as Tones And I, has made history as the longest running Australian artist to hold the No.1 spot on the ARIA Singles Chart at 10 weeks with her single Dance Monkey. And she’s topped the UK charts overnight as well — that’s on top of hitting No.1 in 12 other countries, including Slovakia, Scotland, Hungary, Finland and Germany.
“I am so thankful to Australia for all the support. This song was written for my friends at the Byron Bay backpackers, little did I know the whole country would be dancing to it, wow,” the ecstatic muso said after being presented a special ARIA plaque to mark the achievement.

“I am so very proud of Tones and her incredible honour and achievement of becoming the longest running Australian artist at No.1 on the ARIA singles chart, holding the top spot for 10 consecutive weeks,” Sony Music Australian chairman Denis Handlin said.
“This is a true testament to her unique creative brilliance as an artist, her hard work and dedication, as well as her unwavering appreciation of her fans. Tones is a very special artist who has captured the world’s attention, and we look forward to continue working with her and her amazing music. Tones is the real deal.”
To become the longest running No.1 artist ever in Australia, Tones And I needs to beat Ed Sheeran’s Shape Of You at 15 weeks.
Tones And I is expected to feature heavily when the 2019 ARIA Award nominations are announced in Sydney on Thursday.
