The Wiggles romance: Purple and Yellow Wiggles secretly dating for two years

AFTER hiding their relationship for two years, the purple and yellow Wiggles — Lachlan “Lachy” Gillespie and Emma Watkins — are ready to share their love story.

IT’S a secret romance that’s hotter than a hot potato.

After hiding their relationship for two years, the purple and yellow Wiggles — Lachlan “Lachy” Gillespie and Emma Watkins — are ready to share their love story.

No longer will the popular children’s entertainers sneak into darkened cinemas for movie dates or refrain from holding hands in public.

And a Wiggle wedding could be on the cards.

Emma Watkins (Yellow Wiggles) and Lachlan “Lachy” Gillespie (Purple Wiggle) are a couple.

“It was obvious for both of us that we had a lot of feelings for each other so it happened naturally that we started spending more time together on top of already spending every day working and preforming together,” Gillespie said.

The couple, who first met five years ago while touring for the Dorothy the Dinosaur show then later with The Wiggles show as the Wiggly dancers, officially began dating two years ago, not long after they joined The Wiggles line-up.

Gillespie, 29, said: “I asked Emma on some dinner dates in March, 2013 and we really started enjoying the little bits of time off we had together.

“We’ve both always been very conscious of putting our work first though. Nothing was more important to Emma and I than being in the new line-up of The Wiggles, focusing on the music and entertaining the children, so our relationship developed very slowly.”

While Gillespie was immediately drawn to flame-haired Watkins’ smile, talent and zest for life, it was the purple Wiggle’s musical talent which won the yellow Wiggle over.

“Definitely for me, I was attracted straight away to Lachy’s musicality,” Watkins said.

“Lachy is also a gentleman. I have always loved his kind, gentle nature. Being able to experience, together, this amazing time of becoming Wiggles has been the best thing to happen to me. He makes me smile and I have never been happier.”

The pair have never officially announced to management they are dating — their chemistry was enough to alert the bosses at The Wiggles HQ that they were more than just work mates.

“Those in the touring team have known for some time but it’s just been recently that the full Wiggles office really found out about it and acknowledged it. Everyone is very supportive as we’ve been best friends for so long.”

It was this acknowledgment from inside the Wiggles camp which encouraged the pair to “go public” with their secret romance just a couple of months ago.

Until recently, date night involved sneaking into a cinema.

“We saw lots of movies,” Gillespie said.

Being surrounded by kids hasn’t put Emma and Lachlan off the idea of one day having their own.

“Now is a nice time though, we go out, we can now hold hands now which is something we have wanted to do for a while.”

When asked whether there was any chance of a Wiggles wedding, a blushing Watkins, 25, looked at her man and said: “That’s Lachlan’s question.”

“There could be,” Gillespie said.

“Meeting Emma and getting to travel the world together is the best thing to happen to me. She is beautiful and is everything I ever dreamt about having as a partner. But down the track definitely.”

And spending almost every day of the year surrounded by hysterical children hasn’t turned either of them off having kids.

“It definitely hasn’t put us off,” Gillespie said.

“I have always loved children and I would love children of my own, absolutely. Just one healthy baby would be perfect.”
