Sydney TikTok star turned The Voice contestant Sammy Toubia - who has her heart set on life in the spotlight - has revealed her unusual day job.

Sydney lollipop lady Sammy Toubia has a voice that could stop traffic.

The TikTok influencer, who earns good money as a traffic controller, will get to show off her pipes to a larger audience than her 108,000 followers when she appears on the season premiere of The Voice Australia, Monday night on Channel 7.

“I hold a stop/slow bat, the ones everyone hates on the roads,” Toubia told The Daily Telegraph.

“We earn good money, that is why it is worth it. And it is so fun. I love that it is outdoors and I meet a lot of people my same age. It is cool living two lives because I play a lot of sports as well, rugby league … I am pretty much a tomboy.”

Toubia, 20, grew up in Sydney’s Greystanes area and started taking singing lessons from the age of eight.

She dropped out of school in Year 12, describes her music as “more RNB, not too opera or anything like that” and looks up to The Kardashians as role models.

Making it on to The Voice is a dream come true for the aspiring singer.

“A lot of people would downgrade that I do modelling and traffic control and all of this stuff,” she said, singling out Adele as her favourite singer.

“I feel like me going on to The Voice is going to be a big shock to a lot of people that envy me so they can see that I do have a talent, not just a pretty face.

Continuing, she added that people underestimate ‘influencers’.

“Everyone has their own opinion but I don’t think they can judge because it is actually pretty hard,” she said.

“Being at photo shoots from 4am to 6pm, people touching you all das is actually not as easy as it looks. I am happy with what I am doing and that is all that matters.”

It was during lockdown that Toubia scored the full time job as a construction site traffic controller.

“Before lockdown, I was earning really good money off TikTok, social media and modelling,” she said.

“I was promoting brands I used to save up for, which is like a dream come true. I like working though because my mum is on her own and my brother has been supporting us so now that I am old enough to work as hard as I can, I want to save money and help out where I can.”

Toubia’s dream is to hear one of her songs played on the radio.

“I want to perform,” she said. “I want to be the next Beyonce. I want to travel doing what I love being busy, whether it is with modelling or singing, no one is going to hold me back.”
