David Riolo last night described reports Carney had married blonde Brazilian bombshell Lilian Tagliari as a “gee up”.

“When he arrived in Bali he was single. It’s just a gee-up. When I got told about it this morning I had a look online but there’s nothing in it,” Riolo told Confidential.

To make his point, Riolo said Carney’s own mother hadn’t been informed of his son’s rumoured marriage.

“Put it this way, his mother has no idea about it and he hasn’t told me,” Riolo said.

Rumours the former NRL bad boy had formalised his relationship with Tagliari began on Tuesday night when the former Easts and Cronulla star posted a photo of himself with a new nose ring and the caption: “Hitched in Bali.”

Family and friends were stunned as the couple had, until that point, kept their relationship firmly under wraps.

Carney dated a string of high profile women including boxer Lauryn Eagle before his controversial NRL career ended early in 2014 after he posted the “bubbler” photo of him drinking his own urine.

Tagliari later posted to Instagram her clarification on the “joke”.

“No, I’m not married, engaged or anything. It was a joke. Now please stop bothering me,’ she posted, with the hashtag #neverdrinkingagain.

Platinum blonde Tagliari, who shares above of body art with Carney, is believed to be a swimsuit model.
