WHEN Matthew ‘Matty J’ Johnson was approached to be part of a first-of-its kind virtual reality dating experience, he thought it was a joke.
In a bizarre new addition to Sydney’s Madame Tussauds, the wax work museum is offering guests the chance to interact and “steal a kiss” from the former Bachelor in an interactive, augmented reality experience.
“I was like ‘is this a gee-up? Is this a joke?’” he told Confidential of his reaction when he was first contacted about the opportunity on LinkedIn. “I didn't know if it was a fan who had come up with an idea to get me to call them.”
Despite saying he and new girlfriend Laura Byrne want to live a private, quiet life together and use their profile for charity, Johnson says the experience still fits into his philosophy of doing things with “purpose”.
“This is a unique experience and one I never expected to get the call for but it was something fun, unique and different and I couldn't say no to it to be honest,” he said. “I’m glad that I took part. It’s another strange experience that you don't get to do in your everyday life.”
Johnson says he has been inundated with people hoping to use his profile to leverage their brand.
“It’s more often that not someone sending you a T-shirt or sunglasses and getting you to take a photograph on Instagram, but I’ve tried to steer clear of that.”
