Revealed: How much influencers spent on Fashion Week

When much-loved Melbourne designer Effie Kats decided to throw an event in Sydney to celebrate the launch of her latest collection, she was concerned no one would show up. How wrong she was.

Despite the torrential rain, Melbourne’s fashion set joined Sydney’s on Thursday night for an event which suggested Sydney needs to up its game when it comes to social soirees.

Kats’ eponymous label is the latest in a long line of Melbourne brands to make their way into the Sydney market, with Nadia Bartel’s Henne, Lana Wilkinson’s eponymous shoe label, Bianca & Bridget, Viktoria & Woods, Mode Mischief and Lucy Folk all muscling in on the Sydney fashion scene.

On Thursday night, some of the country’s best known names descended on Buon Ricordo in Paddington for a lavish dinner held to showcase Kats’ The Muse Collection.

With Australian Fashion Week only taking place last week, Sydney’s high society set could have been forgiven for wanting to lay low, however, the common theme of the night was how Kats managed to pull such an impressive and elite crowd.

Sydney’s style crew including Maree Andrews, Jess Pecaoraro, Kate Waterhouse, Montana Cox, Simone Holtznagel, Anna Robards, Bernadette Sukkar, Camille Thioulouse, Deborah Symond O’Neil, Elle Ferguson, Elliot Garnaunt, Indy Clinton, Sarah Ellen, Steffanie Tzaneros and Terry Biviano represented the emerald city, while everyone’s favourite PR Chris Kontos, Lana Wilkinson, Lindy Klim, Rozalia Russian, Sarah Lucas, Tori Knowles and Nadia Bartel flew the flag for the cultural capital.

Kats said the key to building a brand was a sense of community, which she’s done in Melbourne and now it was Sydney’s turn.
