IN news that will shock Sydney society, celebrated Sydney chef Guillaume Brahimi and his wife Sanchia have quietly separated.

A representative for the Paris-born chef confirmed Brahimi moved out of the couple’s Vaucluse home in January after 16 years of marriage.

The famous chef’s socialite wife, Sanchia, the daughter of multi-millionaire Sydney businessman Charles Curran and wife Eva, remains in the couple’s showpiece manor house with the couple’s four children, Constance, Honor, Violette and Loïc, aged between 16 and five years.

Brahimi’s immense workload running three successful restaurants spread between Australia’s east and west coasts is said to have contributed to the breakdown of the couple’s once enviable marriage.

Having exited the prestigious Bennelong Opera House address in December 2013 after 12 years, Brahimi has devoted himself for the past two years to establishing a new Sydney eatery in Paddington, Guillaume, while simultaneously running his Bistro Guillaumes in Perth and Melbourne at James Packer’s Crown Entertainment complexes.

Packer, like some of Sydney’s more enigmatic gents including property investor Ben Tilley and Sydney publican Johnny Ryan, are among the chef’s longtime friends.

“Guillaume has been constantly on the move in the past few years. It seems the couple have just grown apart,” said a Confidential source.

Three restaurants in three states has meant the ambitious 48-year-old, who has been chasing his dream of becoming a world-class chef since being made a fulltime Paris apprentice at age 14, has had much on his plate.

Brahimi’s career has flourished thanks to appearances on Channel Seven’s Iron Chef series, Channel Ten’s MasterChef series and SBS’s French Food Safari.

Art loving Sanchia, who has a presence on some of Sydney’s charity committees, has been a keen supporter of her husband throughout his career, contributing to his cook books and inspiring his philanthropic interests away from the kitchen including as supporters of The Australian Ballet.

The couple have declined to comment on the split.
