Ladies, look alert. Controversial Sydney businessman Jim Byrnes is peacocking on social media and appears to be on the hunt for love, or possibly a unicorn.
Layering a Tom Ford three-piece suit with TF shirt, TF shades, and a self-satisfied grin, Byrnes posted a selfie to Facebook on Thursday with the following entreaty (this writer has tidied the punctuation): “Single white male. Distinguished, dapper, gentleman, intelligent, charismatic, charming and kind. Seeks beautiful, elegant, exquisite unicorn – intelligent, rational and at the same time caring, kind and sensitive. Also the woman should be an actual woman and not a bloke who identifies as a woman also half his age.”
Byrnes, ex financial adviser to Alan Bond, two-time bankrupt and friend to organised crime figures and bikie bosses, splits his time these days between the Philippines and Sydney.
This follows a drive-by shooting at Byrnes Bellevue Hill home in 2012 where he was living with wife Gina and family.
Of late, Byrnes’ business in the Philippines has been keeping him busily engaged offshore.
The flamboyant classic car lover, who once drove a gold Mercedes coupe with number plates HIT ME, has a chauffeur business Philippines Chauffeur Limousines in Clark, 45 minutes from Manila.
In 2020 a benevolent Byrnes offered to pay a $20,000 surety to a 27-year-old woman caught attempting to smuggle a commercial quantity of pseudoephedrine into Australia and who reports stated worked for a PR firm that represented Philippines Chauffeur Limousines.
Another who was on Byrnes’ limo payroll in recent years was rugby league star Terry Hill who died in the Philippines in April after reportedly suffering a heart attack at age 52.
Byrnes has long been a friend to celebrities.
In the nineties he was briefly married to singer Jackie Love, he served as Alan Bond’s best man at his 2012 wedding to Diana Bliss at the MCA and in 2019 he and wife Gina offered heartbroken Sydney model Annalise Braakensiek a place to stay after her marriage to stockbroker Danny Goldberg came to an end.
In his Thursday Facebook post, Byrnes hinted he hadn’t had much success to date in his quest for “unicorns”.
“Sadly so far I’ve met donkeys who are great unicorn impersonators,” he said, before signing off with a discrepant “just joking”.
