A Sydney cocktail bar has been recognised as the most influential bar in the world.
Maybe Sammy in The Rocks has just been named the number one most influential bar in the world at a ceremony for the Top 500 Bars in Paris.
The bar, which is inspired by the iconic 1950s Rat Pack, beat bars from 122 cities and 53 countries.
The awards are said to reflect “the wisdom of the crowds” and the list is developed from 2000 sources including experts, journalists, data from online reviews, social media posts and search engine results.
Already a critics and fan favourite, Maybe Sammy placed number 22 in the world in last year’s awards.
It was also recently named Australia’s Best Bar, coming in at number 15 in the Best Bar in Australasia awards.
The bar was bought by Public Hospitality and joined its rumoured $600 million empire earlier this year.
In a statement, founder Stefano Catino said to be named the best bar in the world was “surreal.”
“It’s such an honour for our bar team to be recognised for the time and effort they put into making the experience at Maybe Sammy exceptional and for that to be acknowledged on a global scale is so humbling,” Catino said.
Maybe Sammy has sister venues in Dean and Nancy on 22.
Earlier this year the team also opened Paddington’s Mexican bar El Primo Sanchez, which hosted Margot Robbie over the weekend.
