THERE wasn’t a safari suit in sight when stars gathered for the world premiere of Swinging Safari, a film set in 1970s Australia, at Moore Park last night.
The latest film by Priscilla: Queen of the Dessert director Stephan Elliot drew an all star cast including Guy Pearce, Kylie Minogue, Asher Keddie, Radha Mitchell, Julian McMahon and Jeremy Sims, all of who attended last night.
It was the first time Pearce and Minogue had worked with each other since Neighbours, and the first time Pearce had worked with Elliot since Priscilla.
‘It was a delight to get to work with him again and to work on something that meant so much to me personally, because of having grown up in the 70s myself,” Pearce told Confidential.
Minogue, who plays Pearce’s alcoholic wife said she had a blast working on the film.

“It was an unreasonable amount of fun making this film. We would look at each other at the end of the day and go, I don’t know what we did. We did something.”
However, for the gents their were some scenes that weren’t as fun to shoot.
McMahon joked that the wardrobe department could only find speedos that were “three sizes too small,” so filming was sometimes uncomfortable. While Sims added that safari suits and synthetic fabrics aren’t a great mix.
“In the middle of the day, in hot lights, it wasn’t pretty,” he said.
Over 1000 people attended the premiere of the film, which was shot in the Gold Coast last year.
Nostalgia in full swing

YOUNGER audiences will be “appalled but jealous” about life in the 1970s as depicted in a New Australian film, its stars revealed.
Ahead of last night’s premiere of Stephan Elliott’s comedy Swinging Safari, actors Kylie Minogue, Radha Mitchell and Asher Keddie said while they were glad much had changed since the 1970s — in particular flammable fashions — they missed the innocence of the time.
“I mean it was sexist, senseless and drunk, that is what I grew up remembering, but I think we miss not being policed,” Mitchell said.
“There was a sense of you just made your way through the day without being judged.”
Keddie said younger viewers will be “amazed, appalled but jealous”.
Minogue added: “This is my favourite part of my life ... so to be in a film about it is fantastic.”
