Sunrise viewers excited to see Mel Doyle’s return to the show

Fans have called for Mel Doyle’s return to Sunrise after she appeared on the morning breakfast show and reunited with colleagues Natalie Barr and David Koch.

Television presenter Melissa Doyle sent Sunrise fans into overdrive on Tuesday morning with her appearance on the show.

In what was a reunion, the former Sunrise host returned to the show she hosted for 14 years only to be interviewed by her former colleagues David “Kochie” Koch and Natalie Barr about her new podcast Age Against the Machine.

Koch introduced Doyle, saying “Our next guest is no stranger to our screens, or any of us.”

While Barr said that her visit brought back lots of memories.

“I was listening to this making dinner and reliving the memories of you being on the show,” Barr said of her former colleague’s new podcast.

Fans were delighted by the return of Doyle and took to the breakfast show’s social media to express their excitement. Many asking Doyle to return in a full time capacity.

“Classic classy crew! That’s when I loved watching Sunrise!!! Each of these 3 people are talented and watch worthy people,” Kristy Lee Gibson wrote.

While Monique Baker added, “Mel should be hosting.”

“Worst decision 7 ever made, letting Mel Go,” another fan added.

A Sunrise spokesperson said: “Mel will always be part of the extended Sunrise family and is always welcome on the show.”

Doyle hosted the show for 14 years, stepping down in 2013. She was replaced at the time by Sam Armytage, who only recently stepped down herself.

Last year, Channel 7 let go of Doyle after 25 years at the network.

The 51-year-old told Stellar that while the decision wasn’t a total shock, she still felt sad.

“Look, I would be lying if I didn’t say I would’ve loved if they could have found something [for me], but it’s the market, it’s the year,” she said.
