The Bachelorette — Episode 5 — Meet the intruders

Stu Laundy has admitted he went onto reality television for publicity and to boost his already successful business profile.

Despite the Laundy family net worth reported to be at more than $500 million, the 45-year-old said contestants on reality shows are only “looking out for themselves” and interested in “making a dollar”.

“Here’s the scoop: Every single person who goes on these shows is going on for some form of benefit whether it’s fame or fortune … people are looking for love in some shape or form but 99 per cent are also looking for a career because they are mostly unemployed,” he told Confidential.

“I’ve got unique circumstances because I’m much older than all these people that went on and like Sophie at the end of the day any publicity is good publicity. Sophie went on looking for love but also made millions out of the show … good luck to her, I’m too old to worry about her and the trolls.”

Laundy was the winner of Sophie Monk’s season of The Bachelorette by Sophie Monk, but they split just six months after filming of the reality show wrapped.

Speaking on news program Sunday Night, the publican exposed the extent producers went to for controversy and ratings.

The biggest example of “cut and paste editing” happened when Monk met his family, revealing that producers asked his sister Justine to question the model if she was “in it for the family fortune”.

“My sister didn’t ask the question but then when it was on television, somehow they cut and pasted some words from the night and the question was asked.”

Laundy told Confidential that once the program aired his sister felt “a bit of validation” after the reality show “made her look stupid.”

The businessman said he won’t miss another opportunity to promote his chain of pubs and made sure his interview was filmed at Watsons Bay Hotel — one of his own.

“I want free publicity for my opinion,” he told Confidential.

“These trolls who have never seen daylight and are the biggest losers that God has put breath into.”
