From St Leonards to Campbelltown, Sydney’s pubs are getting a face lift!
In Macarthur, next to Campbelltown Sports Stadium, a former tennis club has been turned into a new pub, The Sherwood.
The venue has undergone a multimillion-dollar renovation.
When it comes to the food, the team have been inspired by the nostalgia of the milk bar, serving up retro potato scallops and a whole section of the menu dedicated to the hand-smashed burgers.
When it comes to cocktails, they’ve created drinks based on the Australian classic Rainbow Paddle Pop, which is a mix of salted caramel vodka, baileys, cream, caramel syrup and grenadine and served with rainbow sprinkles.
“The experience has been designed to evoke those childhood memories like heading to the local shop with your mates and a few dollars to get a burger and chips,” the venue’s Food and Beverage Manager Simon McNamar said.
“We wanted to give people the feelings of youth, fun and friendship and what it feels to be without a care in the world. Through our playful naming and variety of dishes, we hope our guests get a taste of that experience again, although this time it might be with a paddle pop martini rather than the iconic popsicle.”
Meanwhile, popular watering hole Gilroy’s Hotel has opened its doors as The Belroy Hotel, after the original pub expanded into the neighbouring buildings and is now twice it’s original size.
The new size saw more than 900 people walk through the doors on opening day, which is over five times more than usual.
Owner Garry McGrath, who also owns The Sussex Hotel, said after more than a decade he wanted to “elevate the traditional community pub into an enhanced social destination for the local area.”
The ground floor is a Sports Bar, while the upper level has been turned into a Terrace Bar & Bistro which features a huge wrap around balcony and terrace. The menu, which consists of Pub classics like gourmet burgers, steak and chicken schnitzel as well as whole roast chicken cooked to on the in-house French rotisserie, are served across all levels of the pub.
“Our aim was to create a welcoming environment for families, friends, office colleagues, and locals alike.
“The Belroy Hotel is the ultimate urban city escape, boasting both indoor and open-air spaces across its two levels, and a selection of beers, inventive cocktails, and delicious dining, making it a venue for everyone to enjoy all year round,” he said.
Rozelle’s The Sackville has also just welcomed the introduction of new French Bistro, Chez Blue.
