SOPHIE Monk has revealed Chantelle Barry from Bardot stole more than the $100 she admitted to in a magazine interview this week.
Seventeen years after Barry was unceremonious dumped from the girl band in 2000, the 37-year-old Bachelorette star has broken her silence too on what happened behind the group’s public break up.
“We were on like $25 a day and I was living off that money and I wanted to buy a mango — I was a bit of a muffin top back then,” she told KIIS FM’s Kyle and Jackie O this morning.
“I had no money to buy food or anything or go to a cheap store so she collected my money for me and the way we found it was in a garbage bin with a ‘Sophie’ envelope with the money we think. It’s funny she’s coming out saying it though.
“We had to (confront) because we also found other stuff — hairdryers and Chanel stuff and whatever but the funniest thing is that I was the only one who wanted to keep her in the band.”
After the five original members were drafted on the Channel Seven reality series Popstars, Barry was soon dropped from the line-up and replaced with Tiffani Wood.
Woman’s Day reported that Barry was paid $1000 by management to leave the group and stay silent on the matter.
“Sophie left her $100 weekly allowance in an envelope in my bedroom and I intended to return it on the weekend — we had plans to go to a gig together,” Barry told the magazine.
“In a moment of stupidity, being a teenager and thinking that a pair of shoes was more important than the friendship I had with Sophie, I decided to keep her money for myself.
Monk said she was fond of Barry despite the incident.
“I really liked her and people go through things and I thought she’s so talented and I really liked her,” she said on radio today.
“You know? We all do stupid things.”
