Heartbroken millionaire John Symond is reportedly packing up and moving to the south of France after his divorce from ex-wife Amber Symond.
Five months after announcing he and Amber were splitting after an eight-year marriage, Sunday Confidential hears a “devastated” Symond is moving to the other side of the world in a bid to nurse his broken heart.
It comes as the Aussie Home Loans founder has put his Wingadal mansion up for sale, with the luxurious property expected to fetch an eye-watering $200m.
Symond, 76, bought the four-level home in 1999 and then spent eight years turning it into what has since been dubbed “Aussie Stadium”.
Symond decided to sell the house seven years ago when it was listed for $100m, only for it to be withdrawn from sale months later, despite an offer of $110m.
Now after his divorce, Symond is ready to bid farewell to the home he shared with Amber, 52, for more than a decade.
“John plans to move to the south of France for a while,” one source told Sunday Confidential. “His daughter Deborah is here in Sydney, but his son Stephen lives in London, so he will be closer to him.
“It might not be a permanent move, but it is where he will be for an extended period of time shortly.”
The news comes as fashion designer Amber has moved into a Mosman home — the suburb in which she grew up — with her two children, Avalon and Slade.
It can also be revealed that Amber’s eldest daughter, “emerging model” Avalon, 18, left SCEGGS abruptly for Ascham School late last year, with those close to the teen saying she had trouble at the $40,000-a-term private school.
Both John and Amber were no-shows at this week’s 26th annual Gold Dinner, an event at which they have almost always had a table.
The real estate mogul and Amber started dating in 2011 before tying the knot in 2016.
The Sunday Telegraph revealed the pair would be going their separate ways in December.
At the time, they issued a statement which read: “We enter this new chapter of our lives with a deep, mutual respect and friendship for each other.”
