Society shock: Nicholas and Litsa Stavropoulos end their marriage

Popular long-time couple Nicholas and Litsa Stavropoulos have ended their marriage — and it’s rumoured he has turned to her best friend for support after the break-up.

Another high-profile eastern suburbs marriage has broken down.

Saturday Confidential can reveal long-time couple Nicholas and Litsa Stavropoulos have ended their marriage.

It comes just one year after “Nick” was criticised for throwing an extravagant $100,000 50th birthday for his wife at the State Library, despite the fact his failed travel company Excite Travel collapsed in 2020 owing more than $35 million to creditors.

The marriage breakdown has caused much chatter in the east, given rumours Nicholas has turned to Litsa’s best friend, Pembe Bekir, for support after the break-up.

The situation is similar to when investment banker Charlie Aitken began a relationship with his ex-wife Ellie Aitken’s close friend Hollie Nasser back in 2021 after the couple had split up.

Confidential put the suggestion he had turned to his wife’s best friend for support to Nicholas on Friday, however he did not respond.

Nor did Pembe.

Litsa also chose not to respond to questions regarding the breakdown of her marriage or fractured friendship with Pembe, however her most recent Instagram posts would suggest she has had a falling out with someone, with the mother of two posting a number of telling memes in recent days.

“When people show you who they are, believe them,” read one.

“The reality is some people will never change no matter how many times you forgive them,” read another.

“Life is too short. Kiss them, tell them, love them, walk away from them, forget them, move on, wear that, eat this, travel there, move here, dance to it, laugh at it, go for it. Don’t wait.

Sometimes I feel the urge to respond to negativity, but then I pause and observe. I see their mindset, their patterns, their energy, and I realise we are not the same. Darkness looks for company, but I choose light. I choose peace. I choose to rise above, knowing that those who move with bad intentions never truly win,” she wrote.

In 2022, Litsa shared a photograph of herself and Pembe on social media, which she captioned: “She’s the YANG to my YIN. Love you a million times to the moon and back @pembebekir”.

It is believed Nick and Pembe are currently spending time together in Palm Beach on Sydney’s northern beaches.

Pembe, once a prolific social media user who has worked for P.E Nation and Stylerunner, has recently shut down her Instagram account.

The other person affected by Nicholas and Pembe’s close friendship is Pembe Bekir’s ex-husband Deniz, who was once close friends with Nick.

Litsa, who is very well liked among the eastern suburbs social set, is being comforted by her many close friends who are reeling from the unfortunate situation.

“This is happening more than ever before,” one eastern suburbs woman in the know said.

“It’s crazy that people are buying into this eastern suburbs ‘dream’. It’s a nightmare. Run while you can I say.”

Nicholas Stavropoulos was previously embroiled in controversy in 2018 after an incident tat a Mykonos day club involving Nick and another holiday-maker, a well-known fashion personality we chose not to name.

What ensued from this misunderstanding were legal threats, bodyguards, heated exchanges and members of the wealthy Kambala set — who pay as much as $50,000 a year in tuition fees for their kids — forced to choose a side.
