Laura Jayes is an old fashioned hard copy diary person while her hubby is into schedules and spreadsheets.
That’s how the Sky News TV host and her husband, former television journalist Alex Hart, manage life with two young kids while both working full time.
“We almost work in shifts,” Jayes told The Daily Telegraph. “You learn to manage. My husband is a spreadsheet, list-making kind of guy. I am like a Post-It note everywhere, paper diary, old school keeping my schedule that way. Sometimes I can’t find a pen so you will find in my diary I have written in either purple texta or green crayon.”
Jayes, 37, an ambassador for charity Karitane, and Hart are parents to four-year-old Sophie and one-year-old Billy.
She is at Sky News’ Sydney headquarters from about 5.30am and on air from 9am hosting AM Agenda. Jayes usually heads home at around 1pm.
“It is the dream job on television,” she said.
“It is such a great job because it is so fast paced. You don’t have time to think about how tired you are or any other distractions. I know when I leave my kids in the morning, they are with their dad, he will sort them out and I go to work with no stress and concentrate on my job.”
Karitane is a charity supporting mums and dads in the challenges of parenting.
“My mum actually used Karitane,” Jayes said.
“I didn’t until we went into the second lockdown in Sydney. Billy was a lockdown baby. Billy wasn’t sleeping well and Karitane had this virtual village that you could call on professionals to ask for help. I found it so good because I am not someone that would normally ask for help, I am a bit stubborn.”
