SINGER Tina Arena has thrown shade on her fellow celebrities turned parfumiers, calling their eponymous scents“fly spray”.
As Delta Goodrem was Tuesday out peddling her new “Delta” fragrance at a Melbourne mall, singing veteran Arena sparked a celebrity perfume war when she criticised her fellow celebs for their mass-produced wares.
Goodrem’s foray into fragrance is the latest in a long line of celebs including Jess Mauboy, Gina Liano, Taylor Swift, Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez to launch a scent off their celebrity, available at an accessible price point at chemists and supermarkets.
Arena too has launched a scent, but the part-time Parisian insists hers is more cultured.
“It’s not supermarket stuff. It’s not fly spray,” she sniffed of the product, pointing to its WA-sourced sandalwood.
“There’s so much history in the bottle,” she insisted.
Firing another salvo at her competitors, Arena thumbed her nose at the idea of using her image to promote her scent. “No, no, no,” she protested when music writer Cameron Adams asked if she’d like to see her face on the bottle.
In recent years, Real Housewife Liano has put out a scent called Fearless, while Mauboy has released Be Beautiful.
Kylie Minogue, meanwhile, has launched a staggering 10 fragrances in her career as a celebrity spruiker.
