While many of us gaze over the beautiful pictures of high achievers and celebrities on social media, it’s not often we get an actual insight into what makes them so stunningly radiant and successful.
For mum of four, Shark Tank TV personality and founder of international company Boost Juice, Janine Allis, 50, health and happiness starts on the plate.
“I try to avoid processed foods, but enjoy a glass of champagne when life calls for a celebration,’ she admits, adding that naturally she’ll also have a juice every day.
The busy entrepreneur, who lives in Melbourne with her beloved hubby Jeff, also credits her slender frame to doing yoga five to six times a week and walking her daughter to school most days.
“I don’t miss yoga. Even if it’s only 15 minutes on the mat, it keeps me balanced and my husband would say a nicer person,’ she laughs.
Running a company which spans across 17 countries and over 350 stores doesn’t come without pressure and stress. The pretty brunette says there’s no such thing as a typical day in the office, with her schedule often including everything from board meetings to travelling interstate, but one thing that helps her remain down to earth is quality time with her children, Samuel 25, Oliver 19, Riley 17 and little Tahlia, 7.
“I cuddle my daughter first thing in the morning and last thing at night, it’s a simple must,” she tells Confidential.
And for those days when it’s non-stop – “I love a glass of red wine to unwind at the end of a stressful day, and I am a sucker for liquorish,” Janine says, proving that even she allows herself a treat or two.
“Health to me is about balance. I do not believe in diets as a health solution, changing or tweaking your lifestyle is much more effective.”

It seems impossible to think Janine manages to keep in shape, grow a successful business and run a family, but the TV shark says women can indeed have it all.
“Women are better mothers if they are happy women. So if, having a career makes you happy then there should be no guilt as you should be a happier woman,” she says, adding the secret is setting “yourself up for success”.
“For me owning my own business meant that I decided where the office was, that I could be there for the kids events and that I could work my own hours. Juggling is hard, sometimes you do drop the ball and you get your pendulum out of sync, but that is life and I would not have it any other way.
When it comes to her ultimate success though, Janine says marrying Jeff worked out great for business.
“We had to sell our family home to fund the business; it would have been hard to do that if my husband did not have faith in the business and in me.”
A day on Janine’s plate
Every day begins with a decaf latte - I like the taste of coffee but have weaned myself off the caffeine.
Breakfast: A quick smoothie that a naturopath helped develop that suits my dietary needs. It’s made up of banana, kale, blueberries, Metagenics Energy X, whey protein power, Chia seeds, Boosts Juice’s all greens booster, Mega Brain Plus oil, 100% coco powder, milk, ice. Plus, some drinking chocolate powder to help rid of the Metagenics Energy X and oil taste.
Mid-morning: A pineapple, celery, apple and ginger blended juice.
Lunch: Normally an egg based dish, like a quiche.
Dinner: Varies dramatically, but usually consists of a protein and three vegetables. I try and make sure I eat before 7pm which isn’t always easy.
Top business tips from TV shark Janine
Marry well: Or pick your partner well. It is very difficult (not impossible) if you don’t have the support of your partner. We had to sell our family home to fund the business; it would have been hard to do that if my husband did not have faith in the business and in me.
Know your numbers: Finances are not a necessary evil, they tell you many stories on how your business is going and where you need to focus.
People are everything: Push for a high performance culture, as you will need it to grow. Hire only exceptional people, because they will attract more exceptional people.
Have good systems in place: this is your foundation of the business. Continue to create systems that ensure your business can grow.
