Sam Frost: ‘I feel like I’ve found my purpose’

The Home and Away actor opens up on her mental health work and why she’s not ashamed of her reality TV past.

What started as small website to share stories about mental health has become a movement for Sam Frost.

The Home and Away actor now spends her weekend running youth workshops for Believe by Sam Frost, which she started in 2015 with her sister Kristine who is a qualified youth mentor. The aim of these workshops is to give young women the tools to deal with their anxiety, school bullying and healthy ways to interact with social media.

Frost said the demand for the workshops was so high, that she’s in the process of developing programs for adults.

“Coronavirus has had a huge impact on people’s mental health, and we’ve really seen a higher demand for our workshops. With all the lockdowns, we are seeing this growing social anxiety and being struggling to adapt to all the changes,” she said.

“I feel like my purpose is the work I’m doing with Believe. I love my job on Home and Away and it gives me this great platform to help get my message out.”

Since she rose to fame on The Bachelor in 2014, Frost has become a target of online bullying and has detailed her lifelong battle with depression.

“I never imagined I would be working in this space but I’m really proud of where I’ve come from. I’m not ashamed of that and just grateful for every experience,” she said.

And her Believe community also helps her own mental health.

“Whenever I’m feeling down and out, or the weight of the world feels heavy, I get messages from our community saying how much we’ve changed their life and how they’ve never been more positive. It reminds me to listen to my own advice.”

Now Frost is about to launch her own crystal infused candle collaboration with Myles Gray, with profits from the sales going back into developing more workshops.

“My house is full of candles and crystals. Every night I light a candle, meditate and journal. My little routine really helps me,” she said.
