Sam Burgess marries Phoebe Hooke dressed in Armani with groomsmen brothers before steak and chips feast
SAM Burgess has married Phoebe Hooke on her parents’ sprawling southern highlands estate. He and his groomsmen brothers dressed in Armani while she looked simply stunning in a daring Alex Perry gown.
IT’S the dream end to 2015 for Sam Burgess.
The Rabbitohs star, who recently announced his return to South Sydney on a $1.8 million contract, has wed Australian girlfriend Phoebe Hooke at her parents’ rural property, Daffodil Downs.
Around 150 guests travelled to the sprawling Southern Highlands estate to celebrate the couple’s nuptials with Hooke wearing a custom made Alex Perry gown.
Burgess, 27, wore bespoke Armani, as did his groomsmen, brothers Luke, Thomas and George, and best mate, personal trainer Chris Feather.
Hooke’s bridesmaids — sisters Jemima Fairbanks and Harriet Hooke, best friend Phoebe White and now sister-in-law Yolanda Hodgson — also wore Alex Perry.
Burgess’s Rabbitohs teammates were all in attendance, including Greg Inglis, Adam Reynolds and John Sutton.
The players enjoyed an afternoon of casual golf and Corona’s at nearby Peppers Craigieburn, before suiting up for the ceremony.
Rabbitohs owner and Burgess’s good mate Russell Crowe was among the guests with his sons Charlie and Tennyson and parents Jocelyn and Alex.
The ceremony took place in a white marquee decorated with floral arches, set up in a paddock on the large property in Bowral while the Hooke family horses looked on.
After applauding the newlyweds, guests moved to the back of the acreage for the reception.
A stark contrast to the female soloist welcoming guests into the 5pm ceremony, rock band The Nevilles were to play after the meal — kicking off at midnight, guaranteeing a late night on the rural homestead.
“Mitch and Sarah Hooke hosted the reception on their private horse property in a large marquee where the guests ate steak and fries” a statement from the newlyweds read.
“Mr and Mrs S Burgess have chosen not to sell their wedding to any media outlet and request the day be kept as private as possible.”
There’s no word yet on when or where the couple will enjoy their honeymoon.
And Burgess will officially return to Rabbitohs training in the new year after a short stint playing for Bath in the UK and representing England in the World Cup in 2015.
He will be back at training in March.
