Samantha Armytage reveals real reason why she left Sunrise

Samantha Armytage has claimed that her Sunrise replacement Natalie Barr wanted her job for a long time before she quit the Channel 7 breakfast show in March.

The former TV presenter took to Twitter on Monday to respond to Barr, who recently admitted they were never friends in a candid interview.

“Look.. I’m out. Nat’s wanted the job, forever.. & she’s finally got it,” Armytage tweeted. “She just needs to get on & enjoy it – & forget about me..(even though I’m unforgettable Winking face with tongueFace with tears of joyFace with tears of joyFace with tears of joy.) #peaceout.”

It comes after Barr recently told The Australian Women’s Weekly that she and Armytage did not have much in common outside of work.

“We got along very well in the office, for sure,” Barr said.

“But the truth is we didn’t really see each other outside the office. We had vastly different lives, I guess. We were in different places. She was hanging with her friends, and I was spending time with my family. So, yes, we were in different places.”

During an interview on the Kyle and Jackie O show on Monday, Armytage was asked about persistent feud rumours with her former Sunrise colleagues.

“It’s better to be talked about than not isn’t it in this life?” she said.

“I thought everyone might forget about me when I was having my little sabbatical but it seems they’re not.

“There’s nothing interesting going on there honestly, I’m just um … I’m just doing my thing out in the country.”

Behind the scenes feud rumours previously gained steam when Sunrise co-host David Koch revealed that he Barr were not invited to her farewell lunch held at upscale restaurant Catalina in Rose Bay.

Last month it was also revealed that Armytage unfollowed her Sunrise colleagues on Instagram.

In March, she quit Sunrise after eight years to spend more time with family.

Barr, the former newsreader, was announced as her replacement.

The pair have repeatedly denied feud rumours.

Also during her KIIS radio interview, Armytage spoke about changing her last name months after her fairytale wedding to Richard Lavender.

“I haven’t changed my name yet, I haven’t gotten around to it,” she said.

Last year Armytage, 44, told Confidential that she was considering a new last name ahead of her nuptials and Lavender, 60, said he supports the idea.

“Oh definitely, it’s a very, very good name,” he told the KIIS radio show.

Co-host Jackie O Henderson added, “I would love to be called Jackie Lavender” to which Armytage jokingly replied, “Are you hitting on my husband?”

Lavender, a former farmer who lives in the Southern Highlands, proposed to the former Channel 7 host last year and the couple wed on New Year’s Eve.

Armytage became a stepmother to his two daughters from a previous marriage.
