Teagan Croft has largely flown under the radar playing Raven on hit US series Titans. Now, with her first lead film role about to be released, she is wondering how her life might change.

Rising Aussie star Teagan Croft has largely flown under the radar until now.

The 18-year-old doesn’t quite know how she feels about that changing as she prepares for the release of her first lead role feature film, True Spirit, in which she plays Australian sailor Jessica Watson.

“I am interested to see what is coming up,” Croft told The Daily Telegraph.

“I have no idea what it is going to be like. This film is so much more me, so much more personal. True Spirit is very much me up there on the screen and that is a very vulnerable position to be in.”

The niece of actors Penny and Jessica McNamee has been based between Sydney and the US since 2016 when, at the age of 13, she scored the role of Raven in hit HBO/DC Universe series, Titans.

“It is such a recognisable character that I can kind of disappear behind the wig and costume,” she said.

“People rarely recognise me with my normal hair and makeup and it is really nice to be able to disappear behind the character like that.”

Croft has just finished Year 12 at Sydney Girls High School and will tomorrow find out her HSC results.

Much of her schooling has been remote as she’s been working on film and television sets.

“I love school and I love my friends here,” she said.

“I want to go to uni here. Education and academics are really important to my family. I am in a very lucky position.

“I really like learning and as an actor, you get a lot of downtime so doing uni is something I will do.”

True Spirit will be released in select cinemas next month and on Netflix from February 3 and also stars Anna Paquin and Cliff Curtis.

It is directed by Sarah Spillane and was shot on the Gold Coast.

Watson of course is a former Young Australian of the Year who was 16 when she set out on a solo expedition to circumnavigate the globe.

“It is the sort of film where everyone thought she was going to die and she didn’t,” Croft explained.

“She has said many times that her boat saved her.

“That is a message of the film, you can prepare but you can’t control what happens.

“Jess put her faith in the boat and worked with nature as opposed to against it.”
