From Promenade Bondi to Reign in the Queen Victoria Building, the settings for scenes in the new season of Binge’s Real Housewives of Sydney have been in some of the cities best venues.
But behind-the-scenes, where are Sydney’s most famous socialites dining?
For Shoe Queen Terry Biviano, like so many of the A-list crowd, she can’t go past the famous $50 Caviar Bump and vodka shot at Mimi’s on Coogee Beach.
The coastal fine-dining restaurant is run by Merivale Executive Chef Jordan Toft and has a reputation for serving Sydney’s elite, including fellow housewife Krissy Marsh.
“With a beautiful room, and stunning view, my favourite day out is enjoying a lovely lunch at Mimi’s with my husband, Anthony, and daughter, Azura,” said Biviano.
When it comes to intimidate date nights however, she recommends Peter Gilmore’s Bennelong in the Opera House.
Among the highlights of his menu is 28g of Aquatir Beluga caviar, creme fraiche, buckwheat pikelets and a half-bottle of MV Krug Grande Cuvee champagne which costs diners $880. While a three course meal costs $190 per person.
While on screens, the women from the Binge series might not be able to agree on a lot, off screen they sing the praises of Neil Perry’s “neighbourhood” diner Margaret, in Double Bay.
Real Housewives newcomer Caroline Gaultier says while she loves trying new restaurants, she always comes back to Margaret’s.
“The atmosphere is always great, the lighting is flattering, and you can’t beat Neil Perry’s cooking. It’s the perfect date night dining experience with my girls,” she says.
Victoria Montano says she heads to Margaret for “the dirty martinis and wagyu steak” which costs $145. But when she’s looking for something more casual, heads next door to Perry’s Next Door and swaps the steak for a burger to pair with her martini.
Nicole O’Neil describes Margaret as “the type of restaurant where you’ll always bump into someone you know!” And Sally Obermeder says Neil Perry is the “absolute King. I inhale everything I order in about two minutes flat”.
Among some of their other favourites, Marsh recommends Merivale’s Mr Wongs.
“Having lived in China our family has a deep love for Chinese food and long family lunches. Combine the food with an outstanding wine and cocktail list and this is definitely our family’s favourite,” she says.
O’Neil suggests trying Bayti in the Skye Suites at Parramatta.
“The food is elevated but still tastes like it’s homemade. I love the idea of the set menu and no ordering. The staff keep bringing out the most delectable dishes till you absolutely can’t fit another crumb in. And then they bring dessert! My absolute favourites dishes are the chicken shawarma rolls and the Salmon Kibbe neyhe. Yum! A very special place to celebrate everything,” she says.
Bondi Vet Dr Kate Adam’s favourite venue in Sydney is the French restaurant Huberts in the CBD.
“I love the decor, atmosphere, and live music. I don’t take all my dates here – just the good ones because I don’t want to ruin the place! I’ve never had a bad experience here,” she says.
However with the restaurant not taking reservations for smaller tables, she suggests trying their sibling restaurant Alberto’s in Surry Hills.
While for second or third dates, she recommends Jacqui Chancellor’s Nomad in Surry Hills. “Hot Tip: ask for a bar table if you’re on a date – being weirdly seated across from one another on a table in the middle of the floor feels awkward!”
