Rebel Wilson rings in New Year in California, returns to Sydney: ‘2024’s already GREAT’

Actor Rebel Wilson posted a roundup of photos taken with her family in California on New Year’s Day, before flying back to Sydney on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the Pitch Perfect star, 43, shared a series of sweet photos on Instagram with daughter Royce, 13 months, and fiancee Ramona Agruma, as the family of three celebrated New Year’s Day in Los Angeles together.

“2024’s already GREAT!,” Wilson captioned the photos.

The trio matched in beige shirts as they smiled in front of the Californian ocean together, while they had their “Nobu New Year’s Day lunch” in Malibu with friends — Entertainment Tonight host Carly Steel and her partner Jacob Androu.

Royce is pictured smiling and giggling in a backyard as she holds her mums’ hands.

On her Instagram Stories on Wednesday, Wilson shared a video where she says “Happy New Year Roycie,” as her daughter claps her hands and walks towards her.

Wilson and her family arrived back in Sydney early in the new year, where they are basing themselves while she directs new film, The Deb, in locations in Sydney and regional NSW.

While some celebrities shy away from sharing the faces of their children and locations on social media, Wilson has shared much more of her family online since arriving back in Australia.

“I wanted to bring my family back here because my little daughter, it’s her first time in Australia and she is loving it, I’ve taken her multiple times to see the koalas. Everything is so safe here,” Wilson recently told The Telegraph.

In October, she thanked Airbnb for gifting her family the beachfront pad overlooking Bondi Pavilion that she described as having “iconic views, a pool, great kitchen and BBQ area”.

“It’s like I’m on a working vacation,” she wrote.

In photos taken by the Pitch Perfect star, the apartment appears to boast 360 degree views of the famous beach, with an infinity swimming pool and entertaining area.

The Sydney-born actor listed her primary Sydney Harbour home for $9 million in March 2022, and it sold for an undisclosed sum last June.

Wilson is still in the Sydney property market, as owns a townhouse in Balmain that she bought off the plan in 2015 for $1.88 million.

She also owns a US$3 million mansion in West Hollywood, California, which is where the backyard snaps were likely taken.

The actor also shared a New Year’s Eve post on Monday, featuring a video montage of month-by-month highlights from 2023 — including her Valentine’s Day engagement to Agruma, her daughter Royce’s first birthday and a few career successes.

“1 engagement to my Disney Princess, 3 movies as an actor, 1 as director, 1 book written (REBEL RISING), 1 dating app FLUID, and 1 thriving baby going on to 1 year old! Wow! See you all in 2024!” she wrote, summing up her action-packed year.

In November, Wilson and Agruma splashed out on a lavish first birthday for their daughter, which included an impressive pastel-coloured mermaid cake.

Her new production is based out of Rozelle, with Wilson stating she hopes to create the same level of humour and colour as Aussie film classics Muriel’s Wedding and Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

“If I was directing a movie it was only going to be in Australia because that’s authentic to me, I didn’t want to do the studio ones I was offered in America because I didn’t feel like I had that heart connection,” Wilson told The Saturday Telegraph.

The Deb is based on a critically acclaimed stage musical and tells the story of a farm girl in outback Australia getting ready for her debutante ball — and her cynical inner-city cousin putting a spanner in the works.

Wilson will play a small role as a hairdresser and the film’s stars include young talent Natalie Abbott and Charlotte McInnes alongside Aussie legend Shane Jacobson.
