Mitch Tambo reveals secret behind baby’s unique name

Singer Mitch Tambo and his wife have been surprised by the early arrival of their baby daughter, whose name acknowledges both their cultures.

Singer Mitch Tambo has welcomed the arrival of a baby daughter.

The celebrated first nations performer, who rose to fame on Australia’s Got Talent and subsequently signed to Sony Music, is over the moon about the birth of Phoenix Ori Wulanbili Firth.

The musician is stepfather to his wife Lele’s three daughters – Sofiana, 15, Ofa, 12 and Kalani, five — but it is the couple’s first baby together.

Tambo says he is bursting with joy.

“Phoenix decided it was time to come to planet earth early and surprised us in the early hours of the morning,” Tambo told Confidential.

“She has since showed an abundance of strength and personality which continues to melt our hearts. It is something that I have been preparing for as a young man mentally for many years and so to have her here with the family, it is safe to say all of our hearts are bursting with joy.”

Tambo says Phoenix came early and is full of strength and personality.

The name acknowledges both his own and his wife’s cultures.

Phoenix was born at Melbourne’s Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

Her name has elements of both her parents’ languages, Lele being from West Papua and Tambo from Gamilaraay country.

“Phoenix represents eternal, the rise of the phoenix from the ashes into eternity,” Tambo, 31, explained. “Ori in Lele’s language, Biak, is the sun and Wulanbili in my language is light. So it is the idea of eternal sunlight.”

Tambo and his wife wed earlier this year in April in a private ceremony on his family property outside of Tamworth.

The singer recently released a single titled Heal, written about his journey after losing his father and in preparation for his daughter’s arrival.
