New bub, new job — it is a big new chapter for radio host Kyle Sandilands.
After becoming a father for the first time, The Daily Telegraph can reveal Sandilands will step back into the reality TV fold after signing on for the upcoming season of Australian Idol.
While broadcaster Channel 7 would not comment, it is understood Sandilands will join two top international Grammy Award winning artists on the panel when the show begins filming over the coming months.
The news comes after the 51-year-old announced the arrival of his first child, Otto.
Sandilands left his KIIS FM breakfast show midway through the morning on Thursday to take his heavily pregnant fiancee Tegan Kynaston to hospital.
“I have an announcement, Otto has been born. We are so excited,” co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson said on air.
“Tegan is really healthy, the baby is healthy.”
Kyle’s manager Bruno Bouchet confirmed the news via text message on Tuesday morning at about 8.30am.
“Little Otto born this morning. Both mum and bub doing well. Kyle’s beyond excited. Kyle will jump on tomorrow’s radio show to chat all things Otto,” Bouchet said.
The team also congratulated Jackie on welcoming her new godchild into the world.
“I am speechless, I am so happy for him,” she said.
“We know each other so well and to see him become a father today is just life changing and I couldn‘t be happier for him, he is going to be a new person. I am really happy for them both.”
The top FM presenter was broadcasting from home on Thursday morning, when he was forced to interrupt Jackie’s O News at about 7am.
“Guys, I am broadcasting from home for a reason and that reason seems to have raised its head now,” Sandilands said. “I think I might have to leave the show and go to the hospital. It’s time.”
The host proceeded to check his fiancee was in fact going into labour and ready to leave for the hospital, while grabbing his packed bag and informing his co-host he would not be able to continue the show. Guys, I am so sorry, I feel very unprepared. I’ve got to run.”
The producers’ box at the studio erupted with cheers and clapping as Sandilands took off his headphones and ran out of his studio.
Sandilands and Kynaston, who have been dating since 2019 and became engaged in December, announced their pregnancy in February.
As for Idol, Sandilands is understood to have been looking to return to television for some time.
While Jackie O is a judge on The Masked Singer on Channel 10, Sandilands was previously on the Australian Idol panel from 2005 until it was axed in 2009.
Seven announced it would revive the previously much loved format with production pushed back due to the pandemic. The series will shoot this year and is scheduled to go to air in 2023.
