American psychic medium John Edward has issued a warning to those seeking word from the other side.

And he’s shared his tips as to how one should know they are being conned by charlatan psychics.

“You should go by word of mouth,” he said. “Just because somebody has written a book or been on radio or TV, doesn’t mean that they are that good or that their intentions are pure.”

Edward, known internationally for his hit TV show Crossing Over and was famously immortalised in an episode of South Park, continued: “You shouldn’t be providing information. The only time if you are going to a reading it is okay to give information is if you are dealing with an astrologer or a numerologist. If you are dealing with a psychic, a card reader or a medium, your job is to let them give you the information.”

Edward will return to Australia in October for a run of dates, starting in Melbourne on the 25th of the month and appearing at Sydney’s State Theatre on November 22 and 24.

He is known worldwide for his show Cross Over and also starred in a full episode on South Park.

He is adamant that he wants people to know an evening with John Edward is not a show.

“For me, it is a classroom,” he said. “I don’t see it as being a show or a performance. It is about me teaching people that are in front of me about energy, about how folks that have crossed over are still part of their lives but also about how to navigate the world of energy that they are living in.”

The 49-year-old has urged Australians to be sceptical about psychics in general.

“If you are dealing with someone who is legitimate, you are going to have a better experience,” he said. “I have to prove myself every single day.

Edward perhaps controversially believes every person has a level of “psychic ability” they can tap in to.

“I think everybody has it. I think it is a natural innate thing. If you drop somebody in the wild and they have got to start navigating themselves without a smart phone or a device, they have to rely on their gut instinct and feeling. That is something that we all have. I just think humans dress it up and don’t pay attention to it.”

Edward, who is in the country for a promotional tour with actor daughter Olivia, follows a simple ritual before each and every ‘classroom’ event — meditation and prayer.

“Usually I do it twice. I will do it in the hotel room and then right before I go on stage.”
