Pip Edwards finds solace in Italy after son leaves the nest

Pip Edwards is embracing the quiet of an empty nest, retreating to Italy to recharge after her son’s move to college in California.

Sydney socialite Pip Edwards is enjoying the Italian countryside after coming to terms with her son leaving the nest.

After tearful goodbyes, she has been soaking up the sunshine and savouring fine wine, while her son, Justice, settles into college life in California.

The bittersweet journey began last week as Edwards accompanied her 18-year-old son to the airport before heading to California, where he is beginning his studies at Solano Community College.

“This is happening. All the feels,” Edwards captioned a photo of herself and Justice at the departure gates at Sydney Airport.

“What a rollercoaster ride of every emotion possible.”

Edwards, who shares Justice with designer Dan Single, reflected on their “irreplaceable bond,” sharing a heartfelt message about letting go as a parent.

“First of all as a parent we give our children roots and give them wings. We must always let them fly when they are ready,” she wrote.

“But secondly. There will always be that invisible umbilical cord a connection and love that lasts a lifetime. It’s moments like this that I know we are both on the precipice of major change and it’s equally terrifying and exciting!!! This is life. This is living. All I know is that I’ve never loved you more.”

Justice, a keen basketballer, was quick to embrace his new environment, testing out the courts on campus while his mum looked on with pride.

“All the feels walking on to his home court for the very first time. Immensely proud and crazy emotional,” she shared.

“To witness his all time dream to actually become a reality is everything. This is hands down the greatest feeling I’ve ever experienced!!”

Following her goodbyes, Edwards headed straight for the Italian countryside, where she’s been unwinding at a friend’s farmhouse and vineyard in Umbria.

“Time in the Umbrian countryside is soooo good for the soul,” she wrote.

“My gorgeous friends have built the most incredible farmhouse and vineyard. Here’s to a sweet life, eat well and laugh often.”
