Bondi Beach, Manly Corso, The Three Sisters, Chatswood Concourse. Huh?
Confidential was surprised, but thrilled, to hear visiting singer Pink dropped in to a 3pm session of In The Heights, put on by local community theatre group, PACA Sydney, on Sunday. She even paid for her own tickets, attending with hubby Carey Hart and their two kids, Willow and Jameson.
Tickets cost $68.95 for an adult and $57.95 for a junior or $220 for a family of four.
“She was completely lovely and extremely down to earth,” said choreographer and event co-ordinator Janina Hamerlok.
“She complimented several of our leads individually and said she thought the production paid tremendous homage to the actual Latino community on who the musical is based. She was one of the first in the auditorium to give a standing ovation at the conclusion of the performance – it was a never to be forgotten moment for most of the cast and indeed myself who has always been a lifelong die hard fan.”
It was the last performance of the production after a two week run.
Pink’s tickets were initially in the upper level dress circle but as staff recognised her on arrival, her party were moved to house seats that are usually reserved for the production team.
Hamerlok couldn’t say how Pink found out about the show, only to say she was a fan of Lin Manuel-Miranda, who wrote the music and lyrics for the original Broadway production.
Afterwards, Pink was happy to meet with cast and crew backstage.
“It is not very often that a celebrity like her visits a community theatre in downtown Chatswood,” Hamerlok said. “As you can imagine, she blew us all away with just how normal and generous she was.”
Pink kicked off the Australian leg of her Summer Carnival tour at Allianz Stadium at the weekend. She will remain in the country playing shows across Australia for roughly six weeks.
